In charge of daily web updates for the online edition of the Bucks County Courier Times, a Calkins Newspapers-owned, 80,000 circulation paper in the competitive Philadelphia market.

Skills: Fluent in HTML and SSI, adept at web page layout using various editing programs (both WYSIWYG and hand coding), skilled in image editing and creation (PhotoShop, etc.) proficient at using CGI scripts, Javascript, video streaming and occasional Flash to make web pages interactive.

Achievements include:

  • Raised daily readership to first in phillyBurbs.com, a Web site comprised of four newspapers. Newspaper's homepage traffic now exceeds that of the umbrella site's homepage.
  • Developed photo placement code used throughout the site with existing Web page generation software.
  • Added multi-media presentations to both the newspaper's Web site and throughout the parent Web site.
  • Edited breaking news stories for Web and print publication, often besting competing news sources.
  • Spearheaded online coverage of the canonization of St. Katharine Drexel from Rome and reported for both print and online editions during the 2000 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia.
  • Expanded online coverage to include breaking news and developed special online sections for major news stories.
  • Single handedly launched the weekly online sites for phillyBurbs' Food section and reality, the Courier Times' teen section.
  • Developed, designed and launched the newspaper's first Intranet.

In charge of daily web updates for LeaderNet (http://www.leader.net), the online service of the Times Leader, a Knight-Ridder owned, 60,000 circulation newspaper in a county with two competing newspaper web sites.

Achievements include:

  • Supervised homepage redesign with a staff of two employees. Gathered and prepared hundreds of local URLs for launch of Real Cities 2 portal site.
  • Published popular online charts and legal documents to accompany daily stories using a scanner and Office software (Excel and Word).
  • Drew thousands of page views by creating LeaderNet's first online polls.
  • Maintained local weekly editions and then streamlined them into a single, popular weekly.
  • Increased page views by thousands weekly through the creation of an online archive and specialty pages for wedding, anniversary and birthday announcements, as well as family/history stories.

Covered daily events in a politically active county government with more than 2,000 employees.

Achievements include:

  • Used spreadsheets and databases to scrutinize a $186 million county budget for waste and abuse.
  • Forced county commissioners to hold their first public budget hearings.
  • Routinely beat a politically-connected competing daily newspaper on major stories with in-depth coverage.
